On Thursday–Saturday, July 18–20, 2013, the Hawaii Coffee Association (HCA) held its 5th Statewide Cupping Competition. Shim Pure Kula Coffee placed 3rd overall in the statewide competition! In all, the competition field included 99 entries from all over the Hawaiian islands. Furthermore, Shim Pure Kula Coffee was given a cupping score of 86.296. Any cupping score of 80.000 or more is considered "very good" to "outstanding" and all cuppings were done in accordance with Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) scoring standards.
